Rock Talk, Vol. VIII

By Marc Brubaker on Nov 11, 2009

rocktalkvii.jpg Come one, come all, Rock Talk is now in session. The good Dr. H Townrock is in, and like any caring parent we've been out gathering worms from the Houston music scene, returning now to the nest to regurgitate these tidbits just for you, dear reader. So open wide, or you'll have to wait for us to come back next week.

The 71's announced a, "Bands, Fans & Cans" show at Fitzgerald on November 21st, benefiting the Houston Food Bank. Bring five cans and get a free CD from any of the bands playing.

deSangre's new album, Day of the Dead, is now available on iTunes, and practically every other online music outlet.

Female Demand was on last week's episode of Live from Sugar Hill. They posted a blog with details on how you can watch their performance, but even better still is that they announced their self-titled EP will be out November 21st. But wait, there's more! They also posted a video of an acoustic set they did at Joe Mathlete's house.

Expect our fair Miss Leslie to take a sabbatical from her Sunday residence at The Continental Club, as she's expecting! Don't worry, honky-tonkers, we've heard the baby won't be around until late March, so it'll be a while.

That new/final/only Teenage Kicks LP is out on Action Town Records. You can pick it up at Sound Exchange, Sig's Lagoon, Cactus Music, Domy Books, or online here. Read what the esteemed Jeremy Hart has to say about it on Space City Rock.

Thee Armada has made their first EP, The New You, available for free on purevolume. The band plans to play it live from start to finish on November 27th at Warehouse Live.

MTV picked up a couple songs from The Watermarks that'll be on the November 15th & November 29th episodes of Styl'd.

B L A C K I E has promised us a mixtape in the near future. We can't wait.

Grandfather Child is hoping to put out a 7" by the end of the year, featuring two songs: Waiting On You and Dog Water, and a full length in early 2010.

You can grab a new track from Giant Battle Monster over at IndieHouston.

Rad Rich wanted to vote, but refused to use the electronic machines. Then he ranted about it on Hands Up Houston. Why is this news? Because the LA Times picked up the story.

Ok, so this last one is not exactly band-related, but local video maker Chris P has thrown his hat into the ring for Doritos crash the Super Bowl contest. His clip features zombies and Brett Taylor of sIngs, so what other motivation do you need? Go watch it already. [Ed. Note: Clicking "Skip Intro" in the corner will get you there much faster.]

Rock Talk out. See you next week.
