Daily-ist Tuesday: Sedition Books Benefit

By Brittanie Shey on Sep 15, 2009

sbpic1.jpg Tonight Sedition Books celebrates the belated one-year anniversary of their most recent location, and their survival of a fire that almost shut their operation down, with a concert and party at Super Happy Fun Land.

The anarchist bookstore and collective was forced to close their original location on Washington Ave. in February 2007 after arsonists attacked the shop. The collective moved temporarily to a location on Old Spanish Trail before settling in at 901 Richmond in July of last year. They celebrated their one-year anniversary at the shop, as well as the "survival of our first year of rent paying and regular hours (noon to 8 p.m. every day)" on July 19.

Sedition is an all-volunteer staffed collective that features books for sell as well as almost 600 books for lending. It also offers free meeting space for community organizers, free wifi and an in-house zine library.

The show at SHFL is the first of what Sedition hopes to be a regular partnership. Hardcore bands Delta Block and Anarchitex, avant garders A Thousand Cranes and more will perform. Proceeds from the show will go towards the bookstore.
